CARRIER SCREW PACK DAMAGE

CARRIER SCREW PACK DAMAGE

We took on a refrigerant leaking O-Ring replacement job on a Carrier Global III Screw Compressor body that failed it’s F-Gas Check checks. During the strip-down we found the reason why the O-Ring failed.

During the strip-down of the compressor to install a complete OEM replacement O-Ring kit, it became apparent what the actual mode of failure was from the Carrier Screw Pack Damage and subsiquent localised over-heating. This included damage to the rear thrust plate which suffered extreme friction / Pick-up damage. Ultimately this localised overheating transferred into the trust plate which in turn over-heated and made brittle the culprit leaking O-Ring. We re-assembled the compressor and issued an additional quotation for a reconditioned Carrier Screw Pack including the rear Thrust Plate. We will follow up this job on completion.
