TURBOCOR COMPRESSOR IGV REPLACEMENT

TURBOCOR COMPRESSOR IGV REPLACEMENT

During routine PPM Tasks on one of our customers sites, run testing found the compressor under-performing and surging unexpectedly. Our investigations showed the IGV (Inlet Guide Vane) stuck closed.

We found stripped IGV gearing as the cause of the assembly failing to move. Upon researching the site history, we found previous engineer reports showing an excessive number of High-Pressure Trips due to blocked Condenser Water Stainer baskets. It is these events which put the compressor in its surge envelope. The knock-on effect of surging puts additional pulsation strain on the neoprene gears, eventually stripping them. The complete Turbocor Compressor IGV replacement part was ordered and fitted. The compressor was tested and put back into service.
